This series was entered into Embracing Our Differences, an "annual international outdoor juried art exhibit featuring 50 billboard-size images measuring 16 feet (5m) wide by 12.5 feet (4m) high".
The exhibit’s theme got me thinking about the various differences in the world: religious, political, social... These are often framed as reasons to turn inwards, instead of opportunities to look outside our way of doing things.
Embracing our differences doesn’t mean ignoring them. It certainly doesn’t mean pretending that we’re all the same. But it does (I think) mean acknowledging that those who are different to us live under the same sky.
I chose images of contrast set against the same sky to highlight how although we might be different, we are also united.
